Checking preload of ball bearing for flange shaft (left-side) - vehicles with vehicle ID No. up to 8K0BA088680 or 8FXBN009589:

Check preload of ball bearing according to wear pattern on bearing plate -arrow-.
  Note
t  It is only necessary to check preload of ball bearing for flange shaft (left-side) on vehicles up to the following ID Nos.:
t  Audi A4 up to vehicle ID No. WAUZZZ8K0BA088680
t  Audi A5 up to vehicle ID No. WAUZZZ8FXBN009589
t  This check is not required on later vehicles because of a design change.
l  Flange shaft (left-side) must be removed → Chapter.

Wear pattern „A“
l  Slight impressions in vicinity of hole in mounting bracket -arrows-.
l  No trace of scoring or material worn down around circumference.
–  Optimise preload of ball bearing for flange shaft (left-side) → Chapter.

Wear pattern „B“
l  Scoring and possibly material worn down around circumference of hole in mounting bracket -arrow-.
–  Adjust preload of bearing for flange shaft (left-side) → Chapter.
–  Renew mounting bracket, ball bearing and circlip → Chapter.
