Removing and installing sealing flange (gearbox end) Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Electric drill with plastic brush attachment t  Safety goggles t  Sealant → Electronic parts catalogue t  Guide sleeve -T20097- Removing l  Gearbox removed. –  Remove drive plate → Chapter.

–  Detach intermediate plate at sealing flange and dowel sleeves -arrows-.

–  Remove bolts -1 ... 8-. –  Remove sealing flange (gearbox end). Installing l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Sealing flange and drive plate - exploded view“ t  Silicone sealant → Electronic parts catalogue   Note t  Note expiry date of silicone sealant. t  The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the silicone sealant. –  Remove sealant remaining on cylinder block with flat scraper.   WARNING Protect eyes against injuries. Wear safety goggles.

–  Remove sealant residue on sealing flange using rotating plastic brush or similar. –  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

–  Cut off nozzle of tube at front marking (Ø of nozzle approx. 2 mm).

–  Apply silicone sealant onto clean sealing surface of cover, as illustrated. t  Thickness of sealant bead: 2 ... 3 mm.   Note t  The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealant. t  The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant can enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.

–  Fit guide sleeve -T20097- onto crankshaft journal. –  Push sealing flange over guide sleeve -T20097- onto crankshaft journal and tighten bolts immediately; tightening sequence → Fig..   Note After installing the sealing flange, wait about 30 minutes for the sealant to dry. Then (and only then) fill the engine with engine oil. The remaining installation steps are carried out in the reverse sequence. Note the following points: –  Install drive plate → Chapter. –  Check oil level; A4 → Booklet812, A5 → Booklet811
