1 - Gasket
q   Renew
2 - Lambda probe -G39- and Lambda probe heater -Z19-
q   The threads on the new Lambda probes are coated with a special assembly paste.
q   If re-installing old Lambda probe, coat thread with high-temperature paste: Refer to → Electronic parts catalogue for high-temperature paste
q   The assembly paste/high-temperature paste must not get into the slots on the probe body
q   Removing and installing → Rep. gr.24
3 - Lambda probe after catalytic converter -G130- and Lambda probe heater 1 after catalytic converter -Z29-
q   The threads on the new Lambda probes are coated with a special assembly paste.
q   If re-installing old Lambda probe, coat thread with high-temperature paste: Refer to → Electronic parts catalogue for high-temperature paste
q   The assembly paste/high-temperature paste must not get into the slots on the probe body
q   Removing and installing → Rep. gr.24
4 - Catalytic converter
q   Protect catalytic converter from damage by knocks and impact
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
5 - Front silencer
  Caution
Avoid damage to flexible joint.
t  Do not bend flexible joint more than 10°.
t  Install flexible joint so that it is not under tension.
t  Take care not to damage wire mesh on flexible joint.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
6 - Clamp (front)
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly.
7 - Nut
q   23 Nm
8 - Centre silencer
q   Combined in one unit with rear silencers as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Remove diagonal struts prior to removal → Fig.
q   Cutting point → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
9 - Clamp (rear left)
q   For separate replacement of centre and rear silencers
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
10 - Rear silencer (left-side)
q   Combined as one unit with centre silencer and tailpipe as original equipment
q   Remove diagonal struts prior to removal → Fig.
q   Centre silencer, rear silencer and tailpipe can be renewed separately as required
q   Cutting point: centre silencer / rear silencer → Chapter
q   Cutting point between rear silencer and tailpipe → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
11 - Tailpipe
q   Combined in one unit with rear silencer as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Chapter
q   Aligning → Chapter
12 - Clamp
q   23 Nm
13 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter
14 - Nut
q   Renew
q   20 Nm
15 - Nut
q   23 Nm
16 - Rear silencer (right-side)
q   Combined as one unit with centre silencer and tailpipe as original equipment
q   Remove diagonal struts prior to removal → Fig.
q   Centre silencer, rear silencer and tailpipe can be renewed separately as required
q   Cutting point: centre silencer / rear silencer → Chapter
q   Cutting point between rear silencer and tailpipe → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
17 - Clamp (rear right)
q   For separate replacement of centre and rear silencers
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
18 - Bolt
q   Renew
q   20 Nm
19 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system“
20 - Gasket
q   Renew
21 - Nut
q   25 Nm
22 - Nut
q   40 Nm
q   Renew
q   Coat studs of turbocharger with high-temperature paste
q   High-temperature paste → Electronic parts catalogue

   
Installation position of front clamp
–  Fit the clamp at the angle shown.
l  Bolt connections face to right.
l  Nuts face upwards.
l  α = approx. 20°

Installation position of rear clamp
–  Install clamps so that the bolt ends do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Installation position: bolt connections face forwards.

Diagonal struts
–  Remove diagonal struts -1- and -2- when removing centre silencer and rear silencer unit.
–  Install diagonal struts → Rep. gr.42.
