Removing and installing thermostat Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Refractometer -T10007-

t  Drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208-

t  T-bar and socket, 10 mm -3185-

t  Allen key, long reach -T10058- Removing   Note Always renew seals and gaskets. –  Drain coolant → Chapter. –  Detach coolant hose from connection.

–  Using T-bar and socket, 10 mm -3185- and Allen key (long reach) -T10058-, unscrew securing bolts -4- of connection -3- and remove connection -3- with thermostat -1-. –  Turn thermostat -1- 90° in anti-clockwise direction and take thermostat out of connection -3-. Installing Install in reverse order. Note the following: Tightening torques → Chapter „Coolant pump, thermostat, 4/2-way valve with thermostat - exploded view“ –  Moisten new O-ring -2- with coolant. –  Fit thermostat -1- with O-ring -2- into connection -3- and turn 90° in clockwise direction.   Note The brace on the thermostat must be almost vertical. –  Insert connection -3- with thermostat -1- into engine block.

–  Use T-bar and socket, 10 mm -3185- to tighten securing bolts -4-. –  Fill up with coolant → Chapter.
