Removing and installing active tank for reducing agent Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Engine bung set -VAS 6122- Removing Observe safety precautions → Chapter. Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.   WARNING Safety risk due to escaping reducing agent. To prevent large amounts of reducing agent from escaping when the metering line is opened, wait until the reducing agent has been drawn back automatically → . –  Drain active tank for reducing agent → Chapter.

–  Unplug electrical connector -2-. –  Unscrew nuts -arrows- for control unit for NOx sender -J583-. –  Move electrical wiring clear.   Note Disregard -item 1-.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and detach heat shield -1-.   WARNING Reducing agent can cause skin irritation. t  Avoid contact with the skin and eyes. Wear gloves and safety goggles. t  If your skin has come into contact with reducing agent, rinse it off with soap and water. t  If reducing agent gets into your eyes, rinse them out with water for several minutes. t  Do not breathe in or swallow reducing agent. t  If you have swallowed reducing agent, rinse your mouth, drink lots of water and consult a paramedic or doctor immediately.

–  Press release catches → Chapter and disconnect filler line -1- and metering line -2-. –  Unplug electrical connectors -3 ... 6- and move electrical wiring harness clear.

WARNING Risk of accident caused by weight of active tank. Active tank must be empty when it is removed. –  Position engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- underneath active tank with a soft foam surface in between for support.

–  Remove bolts -2- and -3- (have a second mechanic support the active tank -4- by hand).   Note t  For greater clarity the active tank is shown without the engine and gearbox jack. t  Disregard -item 1-. –  Then lower active tank about 100 mm using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- (guide tank down by hand).   Note

Hold a clean cloth under the separating point to catch escaping reducing agent. –  Press release tab and disconnect transfer line -1-. –  Press release catches → Chapter and disconnect breather line -2-. –  Seal off open pipes/lines and connections with clean plugs from engine bung set -VAS 6122-. –  Continue lowering active tank using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- (keep guiding tank down by hand). Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Active tank for reducing agent with attached components - exploded view“ –  Check that lines are clipped onto active tank. –  Adapt learnt value after draining reducing agent or renewing components → Chapter.
