Shift Cable: Removal and Replacement

Selector Lever Cable, 4.2L MPI

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

‹› Socket and key (T40031)

Removing

-

Remove selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] See: Shifter A/T/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/09LA
Transmission/Selector Lever Handle.

Remove cover for shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Cover ] See: Shifter A/T/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/09LA Transmission/Selector Mechanism Cover.

Place selector lever in position "D".

-

Loosen rear clamping screw on selector lever cable through the hole in shift mechanism approximately one turn using socket and key (T40031).

‹› Loosen the clamping screw approximately one turn - do not remove it. 

‹› Clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position " D".

‹› Selector lever must remain in position "D" while clamping screw is loose.

Insert socket insert (T40031) into the hole in the selector mechanism.

-

Loosen quick-release screws - 2 - and - 3  - and remove rear noise insulation.
