Pour the remaining 5 quarts of engine cleaner (total amount 6 quarts) into the engine through the oil filler cap.

Note:
For the following repair steps, the engine must be able to run in neutral on the hoist for an extended period of time, but it is not yet necessary to
restore the vehicle to full driving conditions. Ensure engine and transmission are adequately supported.

With vehicle on hoist, transmission in neutral and wheels raised off the ground, start the engine and verify on the pressure gauge of the external oil
filter assembly that appropriate engine oil pressure is obtained. (See ElsaWeb Repair Manual for specifications).

Note:

Ensure adequate ventilation to engine and unrestricted airflow to coolant radiator.

Run engine in neutral at approximately 3000 RPM for 30 minutes. (Tool VAG 1788/10 can be used for this purpose.)

Note:

Do not leave engine running unattended! Monitor engine oil pressure throughout procedure. If engine oil pressure drops, check the oil pump
suction line strainer for obstructions.

After 30 minutes, turn the engine off.

10.

While the engine is still hot, immediately drain the engine cleaner from the engine.

Note:

After the engine flush, the engine cleaner must be drained from the engine immediately, or damage to engine gaskets can occur.

Empty and set aside the external oil filter canister assembly.

12.

Remove the oil filter adapter.

13.

Install a new engine oil filter.

14.

Fill the engine with fresh oil. As an exception and for this specific step only, inexpensive engine oil with correct viscosity must be used.

15.

Run engine at idle for 15 minutes.

16.

After 15 minutes, turn the engine OFF.

17.

While the engine is still hot, drain the oil from the engine.

Warning:
After the engine flush, allow the engine to cool to safely continue with the repair.

Remove cylinder head cover.

19.

Install plastic oil deflectors on top of intake camshaft.

20.

Install the cylinder head cover following ElsaWeb Repair Manual procedures. The cover will not be removed again.

21.

Install a new engine oil filter again and fill the engine with fresh oil.

22.

Restore the engine and the vehicle to full driving conditions.

Tip: Always use engine oil that conforms to Audi quality standard VW 502 00.

If at least one camshaft bearing is damaged, proceed with the following:

Replace the complete engine using factory remanufactured parts in accordance with warranty policy.

Note:

Before installing a previously used toothed belt exhaust camshaft sprocket on a new engine, visually inspect for fractures and damage, especially in
the indexing key area. If fractures or damage is found, replace the sprocket.

Replace turbocharger.

3.

Replace oil feed and oil return lines of the turbocharger.
