14. Fill the engine with fresh oil. As an exception and for this specific step only, inexpensive engine oil with correct viscosity must be used.

15. Run engine at idle for 15 minutes.

16. After 15 minutes, turn the engine OFF.

17. While the engine is still hot, drain the oil from the engine.

Warning:

After the engine flush, allow the engine to cool to safely continue with the repair.

18. Remove cylinder head cover.

19. Install plastic oil deflectors on top of intake camshaft.

20. Install the cylinder head cover following ElsaWeb Repair Manual procedures. The cover will not be removed again.

21. Install a new engine oil filter again and fill the engine with fresh oil.

22. Restore the engine and the vehicle to full driving conditions.

Tip: Always use engine oil that conforms to Audi quality standard VW 502 00.

Engine Replacement Guidelines

If at least one camshaft bearing is damaged, proceed with the following:

1. Replace the complete engine using factory remanufactured parts in accordance with warranty policy.

Note:

Before installing a previously used toothed belt exhaust camshaft sprocket on a new engine, visually inspect for fractures and damage, especially in the
indexing key area. If fractures or damage is found, replace the sprocket.

2. Replace turbocharger.

3. Replace oil feed and oil return lines of the turbocharger.

4. Replace crankcase ventilation system hoses, pipes, pressure regulating valve and brake booster suction jet pump as described in the Engine Repair
Guidelines section.

5. Replace the oil filter holder.

6. Replace the engine oil cooler.

7. Install new engine oil filter, fill engine with fresh oil and restore the engine and the vehicle to full driving conditions.

Tip: Always use engine oil that conforms to Audi quality standard VW 502 00.
