Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair
Steering lock with ignition/starter switch (without lock cylinder), removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
Removing
-
Remove steering column.

Chisel off shear bolt
Note:
^
Steering column must be clamped in a vise when chiseling out shear bolts.

The Steering column mounting bracket will be damaged if work is performed with the Steering column in the vehicle.

Remove steering lock with ignition/starter switch (without lock cylinder).
Installing

Position steering lock with ignition/starter switch (without lock cylinder) on steering column and screw in shear bolts.
-
Tighten shear bolt to 20 Nm.
The bolt head should shear off when this torque range is applied.
The remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence.
