Heated Glass Element: Testing and Inspection

Heated Rear Window, Checking

‹› If there is a condition that the heating for the rear window cannot be switched on short circuit in the connection to the Rear Window Defogger

Relay (J9), interruption in the current supply to the Comfort System Central Control Module (J393) , this will be stored as a malfunction in the
Comfort System Central Control Module (J393) and the information will be sent via the data bus system to the A/C Control Head Climatronic
Control Unit (J255) ; this must be read in the malfunction memory in the Comfort System Central Control Module (J393 ). Refer to Vehicle
Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function. The heated rear window (Z1) control is displayed in
the Comfort System Central Control Module (J393) measured value block. Refer to Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS
5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

‹› If the stored value an the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519) or the measured voltage on terminal " 30" falls below a value stored in

the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519) or in the A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Unit (J255) , the rear window heating will
be switched off completely (or the power reduced) and by doing so, the load on the Generator (GEN) (C) is reduced. Refer to Vehicle Diagnosis,
Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

‹› If heated rear window must be switched off due to insufficient voltage, indicator lamp in heated rear window button on front A/C control head

Climatronic Control Module (J255) remains switched on, however if switch-off is to last longer than approximately. 150 seconds, A/C control
head Climatronic Control Module (J255) switches off the indicator lamp.

‹› Measuring value block of A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) indicates that heater of Heated Rear Window is switched on or

why no activation is occurring despite a request. Refer to Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault
Finding" function.

‹› The function test for the heated rear window control is described in the guided fault finding for the Central Control Unit For Comfort Systems

(J393). Refer to Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

‹› The heated rear window stays switched on at outside temperatures up to 0°C until ignition is switched off (heated rear window can be switched

manually at anytime). If temperature becomes greater than 0 °C during a driving period, switch-off of Heated Rear Window occurs after operating
time stored in A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) has elapsed (approximately. 10 minutes).

‹› The heated rear window is switched off at an outside temperature higher than 0 °C by the A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module (J255)

after approximately 10 minutes (activation time depends on the coding and the version of the A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module
(J255). Refer to Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information system VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
