Ignition Lock Cable: Service and Repair
NOTE: Lock cable must not be kinked.
REMOVAL

Disconnect Battery Ground strap.

Remove stowage compartment below steering wheel on driver's side, refer to Body and Frame.

Remove steering column switch.
-
Turn ignition/starter lock into "On" position.

Move selector lever into position "P".
-
Lift locking clip -1- and pull lock cable out of ignition/starter switch.

Take off cover together with guide (selector lever mechanism), refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.

Unclip lock cable from locking spring at mounting bracket; raise locking spring slightly.

Untie cable strap -2- and pull out lock cable.
INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTING

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Route lock cable free of kinks at position shown with cable strap -2-.
NOTE: The steering column must be set in the rear/down position.

Check that locking clip -1- is engaged

Loosen bolt -6- slightly.
It must be possible to move bracket -3- in direction of -arrow 5- by hand.

Ensure locking spring is correctly located in mounting bracket.

Attach lock cable bracket -3- to selector mechanism and lock cable eye in lever (for lock cable).

Install gauge 3352 -4- between lever (for lock cable) and lock cable eye.

Pull lock cable in direction of arrow -5- and tighten bolt -6- to: 8 Nm (70 inch lbs).
NOTE: Each time after adjusting the lock cable check function, refer to Adjustment.
