Pyrotechnic Seat Belt Tensioners, Disposal
Pyrotechnic Belt Tensioners, Disposal
-
Gas generators that have not ignited pose a danger when discarding.
-
The gas generator in the belt tensioner unit must be rendered harmless according to the accident protection regulations before disposal.
-
Whenever possible, pyrotechnic belt tensioners must be deployed outside the vehicle. Use J-44210 Deployment Fixture and refer to the Airbag &
Pyrotechnic Deployment Device Instruction Booklet for proper deployment procedure. Pyrotechnic belt tensioners must be rendered inoperable
before disposal, in line with accident-prevention regulations. This is to prevent the danger of injury caused by inexpertly activating pyrotechnic
objects.
-
All seat belts that are to be replaced (e.g. after an accident when the belt tensioner did not ignite) must be activated before disposal.
-
The only exceptions to this are for seat belts that are to be analyzed at the factory for quality problems (stuck belt or belt doesn't retract).
-
The pyrotechnic belt tensioner is a class PT 1 pyrotechnic object, to be transported and stored according to laws governing potentially explosive
substances
