Set steering to center position:

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench V.A.G 1331

Steering centering bolt VAS 6224

Steering gear (sectional drawing)
1 - Plug, 22 Nm
2 - Screw in steering centering bolt VAS 6224 as far as possible by hand.
3 - Steering rack
4 - Steering gear housing

Move steering wheel slightly to left and right of center position.

-

Have a second mechanic screw steering centering bolt VAS 6224 into steering gear until it is felt to engage in the centering hole.
