Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Replacement

Power steering gear, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose clamps up to 25 mm diameter 3094

Steering centering bolt VAS 6224

^

Torque wrench V.A.G 1331

^

Torque wrench V.A.G 1332

^

Open-end ring wrench insert (19 mm and 22 mm; commercially available type)

Removing

-

Remove plenum chamber cover.

-

Disconnect battery and remove if necessary.

CAUTION:  Move steering wheel to center position and do not turn it while performing repair work, as otherwise coil connector of airbag module
could be damaged.

Remove ignition key with steering wheel in center position.

-

Move steering wheel slightly so that steering lock engages.

-

Remove storage compartment on drivers side.
