Tie Rod: Service and Repair
Tie Rod Ball Joint
Tie rod ball joint, removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
Socket V.A.G 1332/12

Torque wrench V.A.G 1332
Removing
-
Remove wheel.
-
Remove bolt - 1 -.
-
Remove hex nut - 5 - and remove bolt - 2 -
Note:
^
The slots in the wheel bearing housing must not be widened using a chisel or similar.

Do not apply a chisel or similar tool between Steering arm - 1 - and seal - 2 - on tie rod ball joint when pressing out tie rod, otherwise the seal
can be damaged.

When pressing tie rod out of Steering arm, apply pressure only to end of tie rod ball joint or knock out end of joint using a wooden or rubber
mallet.

Press tie rod out downward.
