Installing

To avoid damaging oil seal - C -, oil seal and selector shaft must only be installed using assembly sleeve 01E 311 120 - A -.
-
Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half full with sealing grease G052128A1.

Lightly oil outer circumference of seal.

Drive oil seal - arrow - into housing as far as it will go.
The remaining installation steps are perform in the reverse sequence. Note the following:
Vehicles with 6-cylinder engine:

Install front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and align exhaust system so it is free of stress.

Install heat shield for drive axle (left-side).
Continued for all vehicles:

Check gear oil level in transmission.
