Condition
A rear ashtray lid that binds while~opening may be caused by the center console bowing downward at the central edge of the ashtray opening.
Service
If a 1996 vehicle built prior to VIN 8D_TAO2O959 exhibits this condition:

Remove rear ashtray/lid assembly.

Looking through ashtray opening, (using a mirror and a flashlight) locate molded support rib -A- in center console.

Inspect for metal reinforcement strip attached to molded support rib.
If metal reinforcement strip is attached:

Glue two rubber tabs (part No. N/A will be supplied free of charge) to the ashtray lid in locations -A- and -B- as shown in illustration 68-A082.
