Timing Belt: Service and Repair
Removal

Remove poly-ribbed belt. Refer to Drive Belt Service and Repair. See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt

Unclip timing belt guards on both sides.

Turn engine by hand to TDC position.

Check positions of the camshafts.

Large bores of locating plates on both camshaft sprockets must point in towards each other. If not, turn crankshaft one more revolution to TDC
again.

Remove Crankshaft Position (
CKP) sensor from crankcase at left side.

TDC notch in the crankshaft must be located behind bore of removed CKP sensor, visually seen or felt.

Screw crankshaft holder 3242 or equivalent into bore of removed CKP sensor and tighten slightly.

Remove poly-ribbed belt tensioner.

Remove left and right timing belt guards.

Remove the vibration damper.

Center bolt does not have to be loosened for removal of damper.

Remove bottom timing belt guard, then mark running direction of timing belt to aid in reassembly, if reusing belt.
