Timing Belt: Service and Repair
Installation

-

Be sure left and right camshaft sprockets are only loose enough to move on the camshafts, but not rock on the camshafts.

-

Place timing belt over over both camshaft sprockets.

-

Reinstall camshaft holder, tool # 3243 or equivalent.

-

Place timing belt on all rollers, tensioning roller last. 

-

Tighten bolt on tensioning roller with an 8mm allen wrench so that roller can still be moved with a second 8mm allen wrench.

-

Turn tensioner with 8mm allen wrench clockwise to tighten the belt and counterclockwise to loosen and hold.

-

Tighten tensioner mounting bolt with second 8mm allen wrench.

Torque to 

45Nm (33 ft lb).

-

Check belt tension by holding the belt half way between right camshaft sprocket and coolant pump with thumb and index finger, it must be just
possible to twist the belt by 

90°.

-

Tighten camshaft sprocket bolts.

Torque to 

30Nm (22 ft lb) plus an additional 1/2 turn(180°).

-

Remove camshaft holder.

-

Remove crankshaft holder.

-

Reinstall crankshaft position sensor.
