If display screen remains blank: Operating instructions for scan tool

Switch ignition on.

Switch on scan tool printer by pressing Print button. Indicator lamp in button must come on.

Press button 1 for "Rapid data transfer".

Address word 00 starts the automatic test sequence, i.e. the fault memories of all vehicle systems with self-diagnosis capability are interrogated by
way of rapid data transfer.

Enter "01" for the address word "Engine electronics" and confirm your entry by pressing the Q button.

The scan tool V.A.G 1551 will display the control unit identification details, for example:

The control module identification can be printed out by pressing the PRINT button on the scan tool V.A.G 1551.
