l  Centre differential housing was removed, causing all the gear oil to drain off.
l  Vehicle must be absolutely horizontal (drive it onto a four-pillar lifting platform or over an inspection pit).
l  The vehicle must be stationary with the engine switched off for at least 15 minutes to allow the oil level to stabilise.

–  Unscrew plug -arrow- on side of centre differential housing.
  Note
The engine must not be started and vehicle must not be towed without gear oil in gearbox.
l  Gear oil specifications → Electronic parts catalogue
–  Fill transfer box slowly and evenly over a period of at least 5 minutes until gear oil emerges at bottom lip of oil filler hole.
  Note
The top-up period of at least 5 minutes is necessary so that the internal oil level can be balanced out between centre differential and baffle chamber.
–  Repeat the filling procedure, adding 50 ml of gear oil every 15 seconds until the transfer box will not take any more oil.
  Note
t  The transfer box incorporates a number of internal oil chambers. This delay is necessary to ensure that the chambers are filled completely and uniformly.
t  The screw plug with seal must be renewed.
l  Specification: Oil level is correct when oil in transfer box is up to lower edge of filler hole.
–  Tighten new screw plug.
Tightening torque → Chapter
  Note
The level does not need to be re-checked after this step.
