Removing and installing oil pump up to engine number CAU 003 685 Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

t  Long-nose grip pliers -VAS 6226-

Removing –  Remove coolant pump → Chapter. –  Remove sump (bottom section) → Chapter. –  Detach coolant pump drive shaft -arrow- from oil pump.

–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- under engine and leave in position for the following procedure.   Note Some oil will come out when oil pipe is removed. –  Remove bolts -arrows- and take out oil pipe.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and take out intake connection.   Note

t  Some oil will come out when oil pipe is removed. t  Take out oil pipe together with housing for oil non-return valve.

–  Press oil pump drive shaft -1- back against spring pressure and hold firmly with long-nose grip pliers -VAS 6226-.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and remove oil pump. Installing l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Oil pump and sump (bottom section) - exploded view“   Note Renew seals and O-rings. –  Check that both centring sleeves are fitted in cylinder block. –  Secure oil pump -arrows-.

–  Release long-nose grip pliers -VAS 6226- and let drive shaft -1- slide into oil pump.

–  Check that drive shaft is positively engaged in oil pump: try to turn oil pump gears by reaching into intake opening -arrow- of oil pump. l  You should not be able to turn the gears. Remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence; note the following: –  Install coolant pump → Chapter. –  Install sump (bottom section) → Chapter. –  Fill with engine oil and check oil level → Booklet811. –  Fill up with coolant → Anchor.
