Unscrew plastic nut -1-.

Pry out clip -2-. 

^

Remove cover for tie rod.

Note:  Shown without wheel bearing housing and strut for the sake of illustration.

Open clamps at boot

^

Pull boot as far toward outside as possible.

^

Remove tie rod using VAG1923 special tool. 

^

Now replace boot or tie rod depending on extent of damage.

Installing

Tighten be rod to 100 Nm 

^

When installing boot be sure: 
The smaller diameter of boot snaps into groove at tie rod. 
The boot does not get twisted. 

^

Replace inner (large) clamp.
