Final Drive/Transmission Housing Seal

The following special tools and test equipment are required for this work: 

-

VW 681 Lever

-

3383 Thrust piece

-

VAG1306-Drip tray

-

VAG-1358A - Oil suction device

Notes: 
-

A faulty double seal allows ATF or gear oil to flow through the center vent of the shaft seal (between the two sealing lips into the torque converter 
bell housing.

-

In addition, a faulty double seal may allow ATF to flow into the differential, which causes the differential to be overfilled and fluid to flow out at
the breather of the differential.

Removing 

-

Loosen bolt for drive axle/wheel hub so that vehicle is still resting on its wheels.

-

Remove front wheels.

-

Remove heat shield for right and left drive axles.

-

Remove right and left drive axles.
