Condition

Sporadically, the gear lever electronics become inoperative after switching on the headlight in the gearbox position S (Sport) or Manual (Tiptronic
gate). Symptoms are:

All segments of the gear display in the combination instrument are illuminated.

The manual Tiptronic function is inoperative.

DTC P1753 (Tiptronic Switch -F189- implausible signal) is stored in the transmission control module (TCM).

After switching the ignition off and on, all functions are operative.

The gear level electronics remain operative when the car is in Drive.
Technical Background
Switching on the headlights causes a low voltage, which leads to the failure of the diagnosis signal of the gear lever circuit board. The TCM recognizes a
fault in the gear lever electronics and stores DTC P1753.
