Steering Wheel, Replacement

Disconnect single-pin airbag power supply connector

NOTE:  Always place airbag face up.

Airbag Sport Steering Wheel

1 - Torx bolts (T20) - 5 Nm (44 in lb)
2 - Connector, airbag
3 - Airbag
4 - Nut, steering wheel - 40 Nm (30 ft lb)
5 - Mounting bolts - 5 Nm (44 in lb)
6 - Torque screws, airbag - 6 Nm (53 in lb)
7 - Connector for airbag spiral spring 
8 - Airbag spiral spring
9 - Bearing pin

10 - Shipping safety screw

- Loosen bolts -6- from back side.
- Torx T30; 6 Nm (53 in lb)
- Remove airbag -3- and disconnect connector

NOTE:  When installing the airbag unit in the steering wheel, tighten the right Torx bolt first. Only then tighten the left Torx bolt, 6 Nm (53 in lb).

Airbag sport steering wheel, aftermarket installation

1995 series production vehicles can be converted to the airbag sport steering wheel. The airbag sport steering wheel, airbag, and plate must be ordered.
The sticker with the expiration date must be removed from the new airbag and placed on the lower part of the driver-side B-pillar.
