Left Front Speaker Inoperative

Model(s):
All with Concert Radio without 1998 BOSE Sound System

Condition

Left front speaker inoperative (vehicles with Concert radio, without BOSE sound system).

May be caused by incorrect radio control module (internal to the radio) coding.

Vehicles without BOSE sound system; the left front door speaker is also used for the telephone.

Vehicles with BOSE sound system; a separate telephone speaker is located in the lower B-Pillar trim (A8) and the left front door panel (A6, A4).

When a "Concert" radio is coded for a BOSE sound system and the vehicle is not equipped with a BOSE sound system, the left front speaker will
become inoperative.

Service

Identify if vehicle is equipped with a BOSE sound system.

BOSE sound system, identifying

To identify a BOSE sound system in A8, A6 and A4 Avant models:

-

Check for a BOSE logo on the front door speakers.

To identify a BOSE sound system in the A4 sedan model:

-

Remove radio.

-

Inspect the brown pin connector for 2 wires (BOSE) or 4 wires (non-BOSE).

Reinstall radio and check coding.

Radio control module, coding

With VAG 1551 properly connected, check coding of vehicle sound system:

Indicated on display.
