Front Final Drive Fluid: Service and Repair

Special tools, test equipment

VAG1306 drip tray

-

Briefly road test vehicle to heat gear oil to 60°C.

-

Drive vehicle onto a four column lift or over an assembly pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.

-

Switch off engine and let final drive fluid drip out for 5 minutes.

-

Place VAG1306 drip tray underneath.

-

Remove plug -arrow-.

-

The oil level must extend up to the bottom edge of the filler opening.

-

Top up gear oil, if necessary.

-

Always replace O-ring for plug.

-

Install plug.
Tightening torque Plug - 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) 

Fluid level in front final drive, topping off after repair 
Special tools, test equipment

VAG1306 drip tray

-

Drive vehicle onto a four column lift or over an assembly pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.

-

Place VAG1306 drip tray underneath.

-

Remove plug -arrow-.

-

Fill final drive slowly and uniformly over a period of at least 5 minutes until gear oil exits at the lower edge of the oil filler hole.
