Affix Refueling Instruction Label and Owner's Manual Inserts

Dear Audi Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Audi has received reports that owners of 1998 and 1999 Audi A6 quattro vehicles have occasionally experienced difficulties while refueling their car
and, in some instances, fuel spillage from the filler neck.

Your Audi quattro is equipped with a computer operated emissions control system designed to detect vapor leaks from the fuel system and to transfer
such vapors to the engine for combustion.

If you refuel your Audi shortly after you have started the engine, and keep the engine running while you do so, it is possible that in rare instances the fuel
vapor recovery system will produce back pressure while you refuel and cause fuel to be ejected after you remove the nozzle from the filler neck.

Unwanted fuel spillage caused by back pressure can also occur if the pump nozzle is not fully inserted into the cars filler neck.

Failure to turn the engine off while refueling and/or to insert the pump nozzle fully into the filler neck could cause fuel overflow and fuel spray which
can cause fire or serious injury. Before refueling always:

Turn off the engine.

Remove the filler cap by turning it slowly counter clockwise allowing fuel pressure to dissipate.

Insert the fuel pump nozzle into the filler neck as far as it will go.

Stop refueling when the fuel pump shuts off automatically - do not add more fuel or "top off".

Replace filler cap and tighten until you hear a definite click.

If you cannot fully insert the pump nozzle, use another fuel pump or change gas stations.

If you have any questions regarding proper refueling of your vehicle, please ask your dealer to demonstrate the important refueling points for you.

Correct and incorrect pump nozzle positions are shown in the illustration.

We request that you make an appointment with your authorized Audi dealer so that the dealer may affix a label containing important refueling
instructions to the inside of the fuel filler door and also place updated information into your Owners Manual. Additionally, your dealer will affix a new
tire label to the right rear door opening. It is important that your Owner's Manual is with your vehicle the day you take your vehicle in for service. The
required labels will be available at Audi dealers as of June 8, 1999.
