Windshield - Water Leaking Near Rear View Mirror

Condition

Water leaking inside vehicle in area of interior rear view mirror.

Service

Seal windshield (without removing) using the following procedure:

-

Remove interior light, rear view mirror, and sunvisors.

-

Carefully spread headliner downward away from roof in area of rear view mirror -A- approx. 5 Cm (2 in.) and hold in place using wood spacers.

Warm a tube of windshield bonding agent to approx. 60° (140°F) using a cartridge heater or warm water.

Fill any visible voids in windshield sealant in area of the rear view mirror using an appropriately shaped applicator tip.

Note:

Insert the applicator tip into the void as far as possible and apply bonding agent while slowly removing the tip (this will ensure the void is completely
filled).

After bonding agent has cured:

-

Water test windshield and check for leaks. If water leak still exists:

-

Remove windshield and re-seal completely using the appropriate sealing method (see Repair Manual Body-Exterior W42 018 197 109 beginning
page 64-6).

Note:

When windshield is removed inspect flange and windshield at locations -B- for possible traces of leakage.
