Test sequence
-

Camshafts, removing, Refer to Camshaft Engine, Service and Repair.

-

Remove hydraulic valve lifters.

-

Insert camshafts into cylinder head and install guide frame.

-

Secure VW387 dial gauge holder with dial indicator to cylinder head.

-

Press camshaft to be checked against dial indicator by hand.

-

Set dial indicator to -O-.

-

Press crankshaft away from dial indicator.

-

Read clearance.
