2. Update the ECM.

a. If the vehicle has a tuned ECM or TCM, ensure the Control Module Tuning form has been filled out by the owner.

b. Check the software part number and software level in the Engine Control Module. If software level is at (or higher than) the level shown in

New Software Version column of the table below, no update is necessary. See Warranty table.

c. Prior to beginning the SVM process, insert a USB memory stick into the VAS 505X tester to capture the diagnostic log electronically. In case 

TAC support is required, attach the diagnostic log to the ticket. The TAC will need this log to assist you.

d. For A4 (B7) always use the 6017B K-Line Adapter to ensure communication to all modules.

e. Update the Engine Control Module using the SVM action code as listed in the table below.

NOTE:  

Do not use a 6017 or 6017A while flashing. Doing so may result in complete control module failure.

Tip:

The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not
be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim.

The electric cooling fan may be activated during the ECM updating procedure.

3. After the software update, byte #3 in the ECM Long Coding needs to be entered as 09.
