Significance of electronic Engine Power Control (EPC) malfunction indicator light in instrument cluster

"EPC" stands for Electronic Power Control and refers to the electronic throttle control system.

The engine control module switches the EPC malfunction indicator light on when the ignition is switched on.

After the engine has been started, the engine control module tests all important parts of the electronic throttle control system for functionality.

During the test sequence the EPC malfunction indicator light comes on for about 3 seconds. If a malfunction is detected during this test phase the
malfunction indictor light will remain lit.

If a malfunction is detected in the electronic throttle system while the engine is running, the engine control module will activate the

EPC malfunction indicator light (see DTC table for list of possible malfunctions). At the same time a DTC code is stored in the DTC memory of the
engine control module.
