Servicing Drive Axle With Constant Velocity Joint
Drive axle with constant velocity (CV) joint, servicing
Grease quantity and type
Constant velocity joints are packed with grease G 000 603.
CAUTION: Part numbers are listed here for reference only.
If necessary, re-grease the joint when replacing the joint boot.
1. Circlip

Always replace

Remove and install using VW161a circlip pliers
2. Gasket
^
When replacing, remove protective foil and stick onto joint
3. Inner constant velocity joint
^
Outer diameter 100 or 108 mm, depending on engine/transmission combination
^
Replace as complete part only

Pressing off. Refer to Fig. 3

Pressing on. Refer to Fig. 4
4. Axle shaft (tubular shaft)
5. Clamp
^
Always replace
6. CV joint boot
^
Check for tears and chafing
^
To equalize pressure (ventilate), briefly lift boot at small diameter end before tightening clamp. Refer to Fig. 6
