Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Servicing

Drive axle with constant velocity (CV) joint, servicing 
Grease quantity and type 

Note:  The constant velocity joints are packed with grease G 000 603.

CAUTION:  Part numbers are listed here for reference only.

1. Outer constant velocity joint

Replace as complete part only

Pressing off. Refer to Fig. 1

Installing: drive onto shaft to stop, using plastic hammer

2. Bolt for drive axle

Always replace

115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) + 1/2-turn (180°) 

WARNING:  The vehicle must be standing on its wheels when loosening or tightening the bolt. Otherwise the risk of an accident exists.

3. Joint boot

Check for tears and chafing

4. Clamp

^

Always replace

5. Socket-head bolt M8 x 48

^

40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) 

6. Plate
