Flex Plate: Service and Repair
Dual-mass flywheel or drive plate, removing and installing
A - Dual-mass flywheel

With crankshaft at Top Dead Center (TDC), install 3242 crankshaft holder.

Mark position of dual-mass flywheel and engine cylinder block (arrows).

Remove bolts.
Note: Replacement dual-mass flywheels are not supplied with the pilot needle bearing installed. When replacing the flywheel, always install a
new pilot needle bearing.
Dual-mass Flywheel To Crankshaft 60 Nm + 1/2 turn (44 ft. lbs. + 180 degree)
Pressure Plate To Dual-Mass Flywheel 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
Note: Always replace dual-mass flywheel mounting bolls.
B- Drive plate

Hold crankshaft in position using 3242 crankshaft holder.

Mark positions of shim -1- (in front of drive plate) and washer -2- (behind drive plate).

Install drive plate together with washer -2- and shim -1-.

Washer -2-: Part No. 035 105 303 A
-
Shim -1-: 3.00 mm, Part No. 054 105 301
-
Shim -1-: 4.00 mm, Part No. 054 105 202

Always replace drive plate mounting bolts

Drive plate to crankshaft bolts tightening torque: 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) + 1/4-turn (90 degrees)

Note: Short engines and exchange engines are supplied without a bushing in the crankshaft. For vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission,
install the bushing before installing the drive plate.

Measure distance -a- at three points and calculate average value.
