Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Rear Final Drive

DRIVE FLANGE SEALS, REPLACING (FINAL DRIVE INSTALLED) 

Note:  All the illustrations show the left side of the final drive. Removal and installation of the drive flange and seal on the right side is identical.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

Multi purpose grease

Removing 

-

Remove shield plate on final drive (arrows).

-

Place oil drain pan underneath.

-

Disconnect drive axle.

-

Remove drive flange as follows:
-

Install 2 bolts in drive flange and counter-hold with mounting lever to loosen mounting bolt.

Press out drive flange seal using suitable lever.

Installing 

Installation is in reverse order of removal. In addition, the following work steps must be carried out:

Drive new seal in to stop.
Make sure seal is seated correctly.

-

Fill space between seal and dust lip with multi-purpose grease.

-

Check final drive oil level.

-

If necessary top up to bottom of filler opening.
