Front Axle Shaft Removal & Installation

Drive axle, removing and installing

1. Transmission

2. Gasket

For vehicles with manual transmission
Always replace, remove protective backing and install on CV joint

3. Drive axle

For vehicles with manual transmission

Note different length for left and right sides, depending on transmission type
Different CV joints depending on engine and/or transmission type

CAUTION!  Before moving a car from which the drive axle has been removed, first install an outer joint in place of the drive axle ---
otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged

4. Plate

5. Bolt

M8: 45 Nm (33 ft lb)
M10: 80 Nm (59 ft lb)

6. Bolt 80 Nm (59 ft lb)

7. Axle shaft with inner tripod joint

8. Suspension strut

9. Bolt/washer assembly

Always replace
Tighten to 200 Nm (148 ft lb) plus additional 1/4-turn (90°)
Loosen and tighten only with vehicle standing on its wheels

Removing

- Remove wheel cover.
