Body - Sunroof Jams/Headliner Loose/Cracking Noises

60 Sunroof has functional problems, headlining loose

Condition

-

Sunroof jams while opening, or the sunroof cannot be opened completely.

-

The sliding headliner is loose at the right rear corner and is hanging down.

-

Cracking noise can be heard when raising the sunroof into the vent position.

Technical Background

1. Installation of incorrect bellow trim pieces (facing to the left and right side of the sunroof cover, without carrier plate).

When closing the sunroof, the carrier plate on the bellow trim pieces (facing) unfastens the lock (see illustration 1 item 2) on the latching segment,
which allows the guide spring to move freely. If the carrier plate is missing or damaged, the guide spring will become damaged when the sunroof
opens.

2. Latching segment incorrectly positioned during installation/assembly.

If the latching segment (2) is positioned in front of the carrier plate (in driving direction), the carrier plate will become damaged in the bellow trim
piece area while the sunroof opens (in sliding position).

3. When pushing back the sunroof headliner, the rear right slide of the sunroof headliner can slip off the guide spring.

Production Solution

Point 1 and 2:

Improved assembly process.

Improved production of two-part latch (spacer with latch segment).

Point 3:

Spacer installed.

Increased height of sunroof headliner stop near the end piece.

Service

NOTE:  Never operate the sunroof if the bellow trim pieces or latch segment are not installed. Tilting the sunroof can also damage the guide spring.
