Camshaft, Measuring Radial Play

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Plastigage

Procedure

-

Removing cam follower. Refer to => [ Camshafts ] See: Service and Repair. 

-

Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.

-

Place Plastigage over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing. 

‹› Plastigage must rest in center of bearing.

-

Position the guide frame and tighten without any additional turns => [ Tighten the guide frame bolts by hand

evenly in sequence. ] See: Service and Repair without rotating camshaft.

-

Install the guide frame.

-

Compare width of Plastigage with calibrated scale.

Radial clearance:

‹› Bearing-dia. 24 mm: 0.024 to 0.066 mm.

‹› Bearing-dia. 36 mm: 0.100 to 0.325 mm.
