Safety Precautions For Working With Front Side Airbag Crash Sensors

Crash sensors for side airbags react to changes in pressure and therefore must be handled extremely carefully. Note the following points:

Always follow correct installation position: Install only in designation location in door. The anti-rotation protector pin on crash sensor indicates
installation position. An incorrect installation position can allow water to enter crash sensor and cause a false sensor reading.

Protect crash sensor from blows and impact: Do not use a crash sensor that has fallen to the floor. Remove crash sensor when doing body work on
door.

The crash sensor is adjusted to the air volume in the door interior. A deformity to the door that reduces air space in the door hinders the function of
the crash sensor.

Avoid heavy soiling to the crash sensor. Do not use compressed air around crash sensor. Protect crash sensor from filings or shavings (for example
from installing door speakers). Do not use cavity sealing or spray oil in crash sensor region.

Protection from heat/cold: Avoid effects of heat, for example when painting or performing other body work. Crash sensors should be subject to
temperatures below 40 degrees C (for example, in non-climatized airplane cargo holds).

Protect crash sensor from moisture when storing and installing.

For failure-free crash sensor function, effective door seal must be guaranteed after installation. Note the following points:

Insulation, cover, speaker and door trim must be installed correctly.

Replace insulation if adhesive sealing material is damaged or dirty.

Replace retaining clip or expanding nut if damaged and cannot guarantee proper door trim seating.
