Drive/Propeller Shaft: Service and Repair
Driveshaft, Installing
Driveshaft, installing Rear Differential 01R
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Pay attention to these items:
^
Remove old, dried-out high-temperature grease from constant velocity joints and driveshaft flanges. Put in exactly the same quantity of fresh
high-temperature grease G 000633.
^
Always remove any remaining locking fluid from thread bores in drive flanges for transmission driveshaft and for rear final drive. Cleaning can be
performed with a thread tap. Otherwise, the securing bolts can shear while screwing in.
^
After removal of the drive shaft from the rear final drive, do not reinstall additional balance washer (thicker washer) that may be between washer
and bolt head.
^
Always replace securing bolts for driveshaft (self-locking bolts).
^
Note correct position of driveshaft: The central CV joint is located behind the center bearing and towards the rear final drive.
^
Make sure that the markings on flange for driveshaft - arrow A - and for transmission/rear final drive - arrow B - line up.
^
If a new driveshaft is installed and the factory marking on the rear final drive flange is no longer visible, check radial runout at flange/driveshaft
and adjust color marking at new driveshaft to new marking at flange/driveshaft.
-
Replace seals for driveshaft at transmission/rear final drive flange. Clean sealing surfaces and glue on new gaskets.
-
Install driveshaft and fit bolts for constant velocity joints.
-
Screw in securing bolts - arrows - so that center bearing can still be moved.
-
Screw hex bolt M10 x 10010.9 - 3 - into rear final drive.
-
Tighten bolts - 1 - at front and rear ends of driveshaft to specified torque. (Counterhold with lever - 2 -.)
-
Remove Alignment fixture 3139.
