Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve: Testing and Inspection
Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Solenoid Valve -N112- Operation
Required special tools and test equipment
-
VAG 1551 or VAG 1552 Scan Tool (ST) with VAG 1551/3 adapter cable

VAG 1598/22 test box
Checking
-
Start output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) for secondary air (AIR) injection solenoid valve -N112-. Refer to On-Board Diagnostics II in
Computers and Control Systems/System Diagnosis. See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection
Indicated on display
Output Diagnostic Test Mode
->
Secondary Air inject. Solenoid Valve -N112
The valve will click until pressing the -> button to advance the program sequence.
If the secondary air injection valve does not click:
-
Disconnect the 2 pin harness connector from the secondary air injection valve.

Connect VAG 1527B LED voltage tester to the harness connector terminals.
LED must blink.
If LED test light blinks.:
-
Replace secondary air injection valve.
If LED test light does not blink:
-
Check voltage supply to valve using applicable wiring diagram.
If the voltage supply to the valve is OK:
-
Switch ignition off.
-
Connect VAG 1598/22 test box to ECM harness connector.

Check wiring between test box socket 33 and terminal 2 of 2-pin connector.
Specified value: max. 1.5 Ohms
If wiring is OK:
-
Replace Motronic ECM -J220-.
-
Carry out adaptation of throttle valve control module to ECM.

Check readiness code. If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory has been erased, or ECM was disconnected, generate new readiness code.
