Accelerator Pedal: Adjustments
Accelerator Pedal Cable, Adjusting
CAUTION!
-
The accelerator pedal cable can kink very easily. Be very careful when handling the cable during installation.
-
A single small kink can cause the cable to break while driving.
-
An accelerator pedal cable that has been linked should be discarded
-
Accelerator pedal cable -1- must be attached to accelerator pedal and at lever of throttle valve control module.
-
Remove clip -3- for accelerator pedal cable.
-
Depress accelerator pedal fully.
CAUTION! Ignition must be switched off (engine not running) when checking or adjusting the WOT position
NOTE: For this step, a second technician or a brace (between the steering wheel and the pedal) is required to press the pedal down.
Vehicles with manual transmission
-
To adjust accelerator pedal cable, secure it with clip -3-at support -2- in such a way that throttle valve lever is at Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
Vehicles with automatic transmission
-
To adjust accelerator pedal cable, secure it with clip -3-at support -2- in such a way that throttle valve lever is at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and
kickdown switch clicks audibly.
All vehicles
-
Release accelerator pedal or remove brace.
-
After adjusting engine idle, check Closed Throttle Position (CTP), and Wide Open Throttle (WOT) stops.
Checking adjustment for vehicles with automatic transmissions
-
Disconnect 2-pin harness connector from kickdown switch -F8- in engine compartment at bulkhead.
-
Connect multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) with test wires from VW 1594 connector test kit to kickdown switch.
-
Measure resistance at switch.
Specified value: Infinity Ohms.
-
Move accelerator pedal slowly toward Wide Open Throttle (WOT) position.
-
Shortly after kickdown pressure point, resistance must fall back to 0 ohms.
-
Accelerator pedal must then be almost at end of travel.
