Pull out ABS wheel speed sensor.

-

Unclip wire for wheel speed sensor from bracket.

-

Unclip brake line.

Note:  Figure shows rear axle without wheel bearing unit, to illustrate it more clearly.

Unscrew attachment bolts (arrows) from brake caliper housing.

-

Remove brake pads.

-

Hang brake caliper on body.

-

Remove brake disc.

-

Use a felt-tip pen to mark contours of left and right mounting brackets in a visible manner on side member.

Note:  To remove and install axle beam, use transmission lifter (VAG1383) with holder (135912).
