Water Pump: Service and Repair
Note:
-
Always replace seals and gaskets.

Cover the toothed belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing the coolant pump.
Removing
-
Drain coolant.
-
Bring lock carrier into service position. See: Body and Frame/Lock Carrier/Service and Repair/Procedures

Remove viscous fan. See: Cooling System/Radiator Cooling Fan/Fan Clutch/Service and Repair
CAUTION: The viscous fan is mounted with a left-handed thread; turn clockwise to loosen (arrow).

Remove ribbed belt. See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair

Remove toothed belt guard.

Loosen tensioning roller and take toothed belt off camshaft sprockets. See: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair

Remove bracket for viscous fan.

Remove coolant pump mounting bolts -1- and remove coolant pump -2-.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, however note the following:

Install new gasket -3- onto water pump flange.

Install coolant pump -2- onto cylinder block and tighten mounting bolts -1-.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).

Install and tension toothed belt.

Install toothed belt guard.
-
Install ribbed belt.
-
Fill cooling system with coolant.
