Axle Beam: Service and Repair
Rear Axle Service Notes
Rear suspension components, layout (front-wheel drive vehicles)
WARNING:

Always replace self-locking nuts.
^
Do not re-use fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use.
^
Some fasteners are designed to be used only once, and are unreliable and may fail if used a second time. This includes, but is not limited to, nuts,
bolts, washers, circlips and cotter pins. Always follow recommendations-replace these fasteners with new parts where indicated, and any other
time it is deemed necessary by inspection.

Do not attempt to weld or straighten the axle beam.
CAUTION: If using power tools (pneumatic or electric), do not tighten the bolted connections more than hand-tight. Otherwise, specified tightening
torques could be exceeded
1. Spring support
2. ABS wheel speed sensor retainer
3. ABS wheel speed sensor

Must be replaced when installing new wheel bearing/hub unit
4. Coil spring
^
Refer to removing and installing shock absorber
^
Outer surface of spring must not be damaged
^
Note different versions of coil spring; refer to vehicle data label

Different versions

Some vehicles have springs with lower coils that are specially marked (phased introduction). Only install with markings toward rear
When installed:

Bottom end of spring (left and right-sides) should lie in marked area as shown

Arrow -A- points forward

Arrow -B- points toward right
5. Wheel bearing/hub unit

Refer to servicing

When replacing wheel bearing/ hub unit, new ABS wheel speed sensor must be installed
6. Mounting bracket

After installing, check suspension settings and adjust if necessary

Take particular care when installing bolts
