Using a Multimeter , check the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62) electrical harness connector for voltage.
Specified value: Battery voltage.
If specified value is obtained:

Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62)..
If the specified value was not obtained:
Checking wiring connections
If the manufacturers test box is being used, perform the following step.

Connect the Test Box 105 Pin (VAG1598/42) with Adapter Cable (1598/39-1) => Fuel Injection and Ignition 24 Diagnosis and Testing.
If the manufacturers test box is not being used, perform the following step.

Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) (J623) => [ Engine Control Module, Replacing ] See: Powertrain Management/Computers and
Control Systems/Engine Control Module/Service and Repair/Engine Control Module, Replacing.

Using a Multimeter, check the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62) electrical harness connector terminals to the Engine Control
Module (ECM) (J623) electrical harness connector terminals for resistance.
