Dip the hydrometer into one of the cells, and draw electrolyte up into it until its float freely floats in the electrolyte. This process is repeated until
all cells have been checked.

The higher the density (in kg/dm3) of the battery electrolyte in the hydrometer, the higher the float rides. The hydrometer scale shows the specific
gravity in kg/dm3.

Deviations in specific gravity

NOTE:

-

The greatest allowable difference (specific gravity deviation) between the cells may not be greater than or equal to 0.04 kg/dm3

The specific gravity must be at least 1.24 kg/dm3.

Examples of unallowable specific gravity deviation

The deviations in specific gravity in Example 1, cell 4 (1.10 kg/dm3), and in Example 2, cells 4 (1.14 kg/dm3) and 5 (1.18 kg/dm3) are not allowable.
The batteries tested in the examples were are no longer usable, and must be disposed of.
