Tighten bolts in sequence A,B,C.
Tightening torque: 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.)

Release steering lock and move steering wheel to horizontal position.
^
Align steering column with power steering gear pinion such that there is no stress:
^
Remove steering column/frame bolted joint -1 -.
^
Attach universal joint of steering column to power steering gear pinion.
^
Tighten eccentric bolt -arrow- in counterclockwise direction and tighten nut -2- to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

Retighten bolted joint -1- to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
^
Remove centering device VAG 1907 and screw in screw plug: 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.).

Bleed steering system, Refer to Power Steering Bleeding, Service and Repair.

Check hydraulic oil level.
^
Check steering system for leaks, Refer to Steering, Testing and Inspection.
^
Checking vehicle alignment, Refer to Alignment.
